Full disclosure: I think it’s fun to zig when everyone else is zagging.
So while it’s true that this season we’re stepping up the visual content over on Insta, I’m thrilled to launch The Ready Line as a wordy, texty counterpart to all the reels, stories, and tiktoks out there. Some stories and ideas just POP when in written form.
I try to be transparent whenever my ideas are heavily influenced by outside sources. Chicago sports fans will probably be familiar with Bleacher Nation, the best sports blog for all things Cubs, Bulls, Bears, and Hawks (and not really the Sox…’cause…well, ya know). Style and tone-wise, they’re my inspiration for The Ready Line!
Content-wise, of course I’ll be covering the comps—the routines, scores, the experiences…the meat of any dance team blog, right? I can’t wait to also go on some deeper dives into dance team history, music insights, and the occasional detour OFF the main dance highway. Plus all the FAQs, FYIs, FWIWs, DIYs, and BTWs you can HNDL.
Who’s The Ready Line for? At first I thought it’d be a great outlet for everyone BUT the dancers—folks who grew up reading to get information or insights or opinions. So, coaches, parents, admins.
But then I realized that most dancers are going to like this format. For one, I’ll try to stick to a bullet points setup (but longer narratives just WORK sometimes, so you’ll get that, too, depending on the story). You’ll get some trivia, nuggets, tidbits, and sidenotes mixed in–things that sometimes don’t work well in video posts or in the podcast.
There’s an even better reason for dancers to dive into The Ready Line, though. Dance and music are really hard to verbalize. Seriously! They’re meant to be seen and heard and experienced. Talking, writing, and reading about things that are meant to be seen, heard, and done? It’s a huge challenge, but so worth it. I believe that when you consume an alternate form of something that’s important to you, it builds understanding. It helps you express your own ideas in new ways to others (and to yourself). Love it? Talk about it. Really love it? Write and read about it.
Yikes. I’ve already veered into nerd mode, preacher mode, and superfan mode. It’s just an 8CA thing. Who’s ready to hit The Ready Line?
