DeKalb 2A Sectional Preview
DeKalb 2A Sectional Preview
Made up of mostly Fox Valley and Northern Illinois-10 conference members, these teams are pretty familiar with each other after a season’s worth of competitions.
Here are performances that scored at least an 82.50 during the season:

Taking everyone’s top-scoring routines and imposing a cut-off at 82.50, we’re left with 12 performances to focus on. They collectively boast an average of 87.61, lead by Crystal Lake Central’s recent 94.73 from a week ago. If you raise the minimum score to 85.00 (like I did with the 3A statistics), you get a hefty average score of 90.59!
Wanna see daring pom tosses and creative pictures? Then this is the sectional for you; at least 6 of these top 10 performances are pom. And most of these teams kept their focus on just one routine all year (just 3 of them are “double routine” teams), most often pom.
Nearly 42% (5 out of 12) of these top-scoring performances belong to Grant, whose 2 routines both made it into the top 5. These Grant routines by themselves earned an impressive average score of 89.57. Cary-Grove claims 4 spots on the list; their average on this list comes to 84.00. Crystal Lake Central appears just twice, but they own the top score, and their average (on this list) is 92.07.
Filling out the entire top 6 should be interesting. Hampshire’s pom routines show that their dance program is capable of sneaking out of this sectional with a downstate berth. But the top of the list is just as intriguing, with 5 out of the 12 dances on this list scoring a 90.57 or higher. The leading 3 teams (CLC, Grant, and Cary Grove) each have been consistent with scores in the high 80s or low 90s, though each team does have at least 1 low-80s score mixed in to its resume.
Even though some stats are missing from the data set, you can definitely see that these 2A teams have faced tough competition throughout the season. Take Grant’s 91.27 pom performance (good enough for 3rd on this list). That routine came in 6th that day. In fact, just 1 of those 5 performances that scored in the 90s earned a 1st-place trophy!
