FRIDAY 12/13/19:
Dance comp season heats up in the St. Louis area with IDTA’s first contest of the winter on Saturday at Althoff. If you’re not familiar with this esteemed program, check out the story we did on them a couple summers back. And if you don’t already know, the dance scene is pretty intense in the southern half of the state. Chicago area teams will likely run into some of these talented teams at IHSA state.
Things shift back to IDTA mode starting with a flag performance by our friends from Herrin. Jazz takes over beginning with junior high and JV dances, leading up to varsity routines by Marquette, Pinckneyville, and Althoff. The always-talented Collinsville team shows off their AAA Jazz effort, followed by a kick interlude involving our friends from Marion HS and Marion JHS. If Maine South is Chicago’s premier kick team, Marion plays that role year after year in Southern Illinois. Next up are a set of hip hop routines from teams with recent IDTA and IHSA state experience (Dupo, Benton) alongside Herrin’s dance team.
The afternoon action features a loaded lyrical category filled with routines you might see at both IDTA and IHSA state. The comp wraps up with a block of pom routines including a four-way battle in single-A pom (Dupo, Roxana, Pinckneyville, and Althoff).
