NAPERVILLE NORTH IHSA DANCE COMPETITION PAGE

UPDATES
THURSDAY 12/5/19:

The 3A champions host a fascinating group of teams on Sunday. This comp has often been the site of where 1A teams start to separate themselves into different levels of sectional readiness. A core group of 1A teams comes to Naperville every December to compete (IC Catholic, Aurora Central Catholic, St. Francis, Ridgewood). This year they’re joined by upstart Evergreen Park and Marquette (either the one from Ottawa or the one all the way from Alton, both with decades’ worth of IDTA competition cred).

A compact 2A field includes four teams you’ll want to be aware of as the winter rolls on: Kenwood Academy, Glenbard South, Romeoville, and Willowbrook. All of them are so far having their best seasons in years.

You’d think that 3A would want to cool off after the previous day’s clash at Minooka, but heavyweight teams are back at it on the home floor of the reigning 3A champions. The hosts share the floor with Barrington (who had a very solid start at their last comp), N’ville southsiders Neuqua Valley (always dangerous), Lake Park (season debut) and Loyola (also their first comp). Expect quality routines and steady gains by West Chicago, Glenbard East, Wheaton North, Oswego East, and Naperville Central. Two more interesting routines to check out: Niles North, who caught our attention in their first dance of the season last weekend at Oak Forest, and Leyden’s seasonal launch.

We all know what Naperville North and Lake Park are capable of (memorable choreo and awe-inspiring excellence). But who could’ve guessed that as I look at the sched, this 3A field is led by Glenbard West and Lincoln-Way Central? Time to rewrite your expectations of what a Day 2 lineup might look like in 3A.

THE LOWDOWN

LOCATION:

Naperville North HS. 899 N. Mill St., Naperville IL, 60563

TIME:

Sunday, December 8th. First team on the floor at 10, lunch from around 12:48-2:00, and awards around 3:45

TEAM DIVISIONS:

3A, 2A, 1A, JV 3A, JV 2A, JV 1A

FAN TIPS:

You’ll definitely enjoy North’s spacious and comfortable gym with its natural light. It’ll take a bit of a zig-zaggy walk through the school to get to the cafeteria, but once there you’ll come across some good eats if last year is any indication. Sports fans will want to check out the extensive display in the main hallway of past North teams and alum who have gone on to do impressive feats on and off the field. And it’s Naperville, so after the comp head a couple minutes south to downtown for some amazing food and quality shopping options.
