Look for an epic battle in 2A as hosts CLC, Lake Forest, Deerfield, and Geneva clash on this beautiful floor. Sycamore launches into their season after a good campaign a year ago and a great one in 2017-18. Also debuting is Belvidere North, with dependable Freeport, solid Buffalo Grove, intriguing Hampshire, on-the-rise Prairie Ridge, and CL South rounding out the 2A field.
McHenry gets the stage all for themselves in 3A and 3A JV. I liked what these dancers showed at Mundelein and it’ll be cool to see what they’ve been up to since then. St. Viator hits the comp floor for the first time this season in 1A. They’re joined by a very good Woodstock North team and Johnsburg’s steadily improving lyrical routine. Burlington Central is off to a great start in 1A under Coach Rios. Their two dances at CLC will be a big test for them after competing at Batavia the day before.
Crystal Lake Central HS, 45 W. Franklin Ave., Crystal Lake IL, 60014
Sunday, December 8th. First dance runs at 3:15 and awards scheduled for 6:35
3A, 2A, 1A, JV 3A, JV 2A
By far, the CLC and GBS comps have the most unique dancer and fan experiences in this half of the state. The CL Central cheer comp takes up the morning and midday, so the gym can sometimes run on the warm side especially up in the balcony. It’s a vintage fieldhouse with comfortable bleachers that can get pretty crowded, even up on the second tier. The floor’s boundaries run up pretty close to the bleachers, so fans and dancers get a very unique setup that’s both a quirky challenge and just a really cool experience. Temporary bleachers are set up for teams on the west end. Parking should be decent with the cheer crowd long gone by 3:15; the main athletic lot is on the west side of the building while a bigger lot is to the southeast. This beautiful, old school is a couple minutes south of downtown’s multiple dining and shopping options, and there’s also plenty to buy and eat along Rt 14. Heads up: the Portillo’s near Rt. 14 and Rt. 31 always has the longest drive thru line!
