DeKalb joins in on the flurry of mid-December competitions on Saturday as they host an early-starting invitational that wraps up before 1. JV routines lead the way early on, followed by a block of 3A teams that include a super-charged Huntley team that’s coming off of a sparkling points/placement performance last weekend at Minooka. One of the treats fans will appreciate in this group is East Aurora and their noteworthy jazz/lyrical offering. Very solid talented teams from Palatine, Elgin, and Dundee-Crown get to show off their routines throughout the morning.
It’ll be a 2A showdown led by both Crystal Lakes, Fenton, Ā and Sycamore, all four applying the heat to the rest of the field and each other. Oak Lawn and Streamwood look to continue their good seasons, joined by the first IHSA competitive appearance this winter by Hinsdale South. The DeKalb Barbettes will surely dance with an extra spark on their home floor, a great chance to seize the moment and set the tone for the second half of the season. They’re coming off of a 3rd place run last weekend and have the kind of momentum other teams will have to watch out for.
1A Kewanee gets more experience this weekend on DeKalb’s floor. They’re joined by a perennially intriguing Boylan team out of Rockford…a program that’s proven in recent years that it can find its way to the state floor.
DeKalb HS. 501 W. Dresser Rd., DeKalb IL 60115
Saturday, December 14. Action starts at 8 and awards are scheduled for 12:35
3A, 2A, 1A, JV 3A, JV 2A
DeKalb being a college town has a lot going for it in terms of eats, but most of that is south toward campus. The high school is north of NIU out in the open, and so the spacious campus has lots of parking. Bright, modern, comfy vibes abound from the entrance right through your comfy bleacher seat in their roomy gym. Last year they ran this comp on a Friday night (we left after 10:15!), so expect a more energetic atmosphere this time around! For fans taking the main route from I-88 north to the high school through NIU, the local authorities are pretty firm on the speed limit (just trying to keep your holiday budget intact, friends). It’s an early start but you’ll be on your way home before 1! Teams in a scouting mood might even want to be adventurous and head east to catch the afternoon action at the Waubonsie Valley comp, and easy-ish drive via I-88.
(Check back early during the week of 12/16)
