This competition runs on one side only, so there’s some downtime between performances which lets you look up and admire one of the most unique high school gyms in the state. It’s a legit dome, a lot like Assembly Hall in Champaign, and hanging from the rafters are banners that show off what the Titan Pops dance program has achieved over the past 4 decades.
The awesome-est aspect of this comp is that Glenbrook South, one of the state’s longest established dance teams, offers the throwback of category awards at their competition. [IDTA still does category awards as it has for the past 40+ seasons, and TDI ran categories during its existence between 2007-2015]
All the jazz routines run in the morning, with JV leading the way. 2A Jazz features the first competitive appearance of the season by superstars Lake Forest. Glenbrook South starts off the 3A Jazz category, followed by eagerly anticipated debuts by Loyola, Larkin (under a new coach), and Morton. Just before lunch fans get to see what’s usually the state’s most talked about routine: Maine South kick.
Lyrical fans get dessert after lunch with the help of Cary-Grove, coming off of a great start at the Wheaton North comp last month, lyrical specialists Leyden, and a revamped and potent Niles West team. Your afternoon energy boost comes from the pom category led by always-solid JV teams from GBS, Rolling Meadows, and Maine South. Walter Payton and Solorio kick off their seasons with Wheeling taking the floor for their 2nd time. Expect stellar pom routines by 3A Loyola, Maine South, Taft, and GBS.
Glenbrook South HS, 4000 W. Lake Ave., Glenview IL, 60026
Sunday, December 8th. Dances start at 10:15 with the last one scheduled for 1:41. Lunch from around 11:43-12:10

Fans take the east side of this unique gym while teams sit on the west. There are usually also some angled bleachers in the corners up for grabs. Bleachers are roomy and comfortable. The parking lot to the northeast of the building is modest but should be plenty for this amount of teams and fans. If you’re not familiar with the area, the school is just south of Glenbrook Hospital. You can find some good food options by heading west a few minutes to the Lake / Rt 21 intersection.
(Check back early during the week of 12/9)
