Stuff you do when not dancing: Because of Covid, I’ve had a lot more time to spend with family.

Any studios, dance teachers, or supporters you’d like to mention that helped you get to where you are today? I would like to Coach Duerst and all my teachers at Visceral Dance Center.

Coach notes: Jadyn has been an exemplary member of my dance team since her sophomore year of high school, demonstrating to be an outstanding dancer and natural leader. At the young age of ten, Jadyn found her true passion for dancing. Jadyn’s adoration of the sport (and years of intense classes) eventually led her to make the pre-professional award-winning Visceral Studio Company, which is comprised of elite youth members from the greater Chicago area. When Jadyn decided that she also wanted to audition for Northside’s competitive dance team, she was already putting in 20-30 hours of weekly training into her studio company. After just one year of being on the team, I undoubtedly selected Jadyn to be a captain. Her incredible commitment, dedication, and unbelievable talent and technical ability stood out her first year on the team, and she continues to exhibit these qualities to an even greater extent in her role as captain. For example, despite training at her studio for an immense amount of hours, Jadyn has never missed a practice, event, or competition. She cares deeply about the team’s success, and works tirelessly to ensure that she takes time providing each individual member with specific, valuable feedback that will move the entire group forward. If Jadyn misses one turn or jump while practicing the routine, she immediately does five turns or jumps right after the music stops. In my five years of coaching, she is one of the hardest, most humble dancers I have worked with.

HAILEY VROLYK

I’d really like to thank Studio 11 as well as my school dance coaches: Summer, Madison, Cassie, and Chelsea. I started dance as a 7th grader with little dance experience and my coaches helped me grow. They saw the potential I had and constantly challenged me with new skills they knew I’d be able to get. I also have the most supportive parents who have always been my number one fans and always pushed me to do better and supported me no matter what.

Any studios, dance teachers, or supporters you’d like to mention that helped you get to where you are today? I’d like to mention my old studio, Donna Mueller’s School of Dance, for pushing me to be the best dancer I can be. I would also like to thank all my coaches for giving me the confidence to dance the way I do today.

Coach notes: Ashlyn has worked so hard this season to be a positive role model for the underclassmen on the team. Even though so much has been taken away from them this year she still manages to see the positives in every situation and she always keeps practice fun with her humor. Ashlyn is a beautiful dancer but when asked to perform a solo in front of an audience it would always cause her major anxiety. When sports got shut down she decided she would do a solo and compete with IDTA. She learned her routine through a video and practiced multiple times a week on her own in our school gym to master her choreography. I was so proud of her for challenging herself at a time when we did not even know if there would be a competition season for our team. She took this as an opportunity to challenge herself because at the time we did not know if that would be the only opportunity for her to compete. She is incredibly deserving of this honor.

Coach notes: Casie is one of our two seniors on the Steelette Dance team. She has been in our dance program for the past four years and a Varsity dancer for the past three years. Every year, she truly amazes us with her growth as a technical dancer and a leader on the team. She will be greatly missed next year!

Coach notes: Tallory is a very talented dancer that we were lucky to have on the team this season due to Covid rule changes. She will return to the team next year and as a senior I can’t imagine what she will have in store for us. Any studios, dance teachers, or supporters you’d like to mention that helped you get to where you are today? My coach, Mrs. Hack, has supported me and pushed me to become the person and dancer I am today. It’s going to be hard leaving her after 6 years with her!

Coach notes: Brianna is a 4 year Eureka High School Competitive Dancer. She is a current captain on the competitive team and was a captain in training last season. She has been on teams that have qualified for IHSA State for the past three years and IDTA State all four years. Bri’s studio background has helped her learn choreography quickly, as well as take corrections and feedback from her coaches. She is a dancer who is not afraid to try new skills or challenge herself. She is a confident, spunky leader who wants the best for teammates and herself. Bri has also helped choreograph competitive routines since her sophomore year and assisted with choreographing all 3 routines that qualified this season for IDTA State. This season she competed her self-choreographed solo at two IDTA Competitions and qualified both times for State. Bri is planning to attend ISU in the Fall and has plans to tryout for their dance team. MADDIE YUNKER

Batavia Dance Team / SR.

Coach notes: To best sum up Maddie is she leads by example. She goes full out at practice and gives 100% effort. Throughout my time coaching Maddie, there has never been a job too big or small that she would not do for her team to assist them in reaching their goals. The title captain is not a symbol or a star, but a position to serve. Her selfless acts to assist new members on varsity has been invaluable to our team’s increased skill set which has allowed us to succeed. Her approachable but no nonsense leadership style has aided in our team’s discipline and has made us a stronger minded program. Maddie has served on our choreography team for 4 years and her creative eye is outstanding. It has been a blessing to have had the opportunity to work with such a talented, dedicated and overall amazing dancer. She is a coach’s dream for a captain and teammate. The challenges of Covid have hit our team hard during our short competitive season but Maddie and our other captain NEVER stopped being positive and thinking how to make it special for their team. I could  not imagine any of my other past captains handling this year as well as Maddie. She has been a coach’s dream all 4 years.

Coach notes: Where do I even begin with Karissa Zafiriou? She came to our program from Cheerleading her sophomore year. Karissa did not have the technique that many of the other dancers had in the beginning, but she worked harder than anyone I know to become a fantastic, strong dancer. She would stay after practice, take classes at a local dance studio, and dance in her bedroom at home. If you envision an “athletic” dancer then you are envisioning Karissa. She never makes excuses and is always pushing dancers around her to be the best versions of themselves. Karissa is a turner and loves doing hip hop tricks. Karissa Zafiriou is your girl!
