This one’s just for 1A! This division has the hardest time gauging the competition as they prep for sectionals, but here’s a golden opportunity for 1A teams from northern Illinois (and a huge name from central Illinois) to figure out who’s got what.
Last Sunday at Huntley was a bump in the road for Burlington Central, but first-year coach Lexi Rios will have her team ready to face the stiff 1A lineup on Saturday. Somonauk looks to continue the nice run they’ve had all winter especially with a tweaked hip hop routine that had the bleachers wowed at Huntley.
All eyes will be on Centralia, the most asked-about team among Chicago area teams thirsting for info on who they’ll likely meet at IHSA state! The Centralia dancers have experienced a ton of success at every comp they’ve been to this winter, and here’s a huge test as they face some of the best 1A teams from the Chicago area.
And that group is led by perennial 1A stars Morris and Joliet Catholic. After last season, both programs vowed to come back strong and they absolutely have. Morris was stellar at Huntley, and JCA looks as good as ever under their first-year coach Kelsey Kunz. These two teams are probably headed for really good days at sectionals and state, so even though that’s settled, this is a rare chance for them to go head-to-head.
Also at the 1A party are talented and dangerous Rochelle, who looked very solid at Huntley. Fans will definitely enjoy watching entertaining routines by IMSA and Rich Central. Lisle built up lots of momentum with a category trophy last Saturday at Palatine, and they’ll likely carry that forward at Morris. Streator was pretty solid at Maine East’s IDTA comp and they’ll find out if that translates well against this mostly IHSA 1A field. A fun Back Of The Yards routine is one of many bright stars coming out of the Chicago Public League, and after good performances at the Argo and Stagg comps, these dancers get to test themselves against top notch talent.

Named one of the state’s most characterful and historic gyms a few years back, the Morris setting is a visual treat for all the sports and history geeks out there. Saturday’s weather won’t be so nice but plenty of natural light does get into the gym. You’ll be on the edge of the Chicago metro area, so you’ll still have access to the typical suburban food options along Route 47 including the Buffalo Wild Wings by I-80. The school’s nestled in neighborhoods on the west side of the city, and you’ll look for the main parking lot right off of Union Street just north of the railroad tracks.
