HUNTLEY IHSA DANCE COMPETITION PAGE

UPDATES
FRIDAY 1/10/20:

It’s the scene of multiple sectionals, January comps, and an epic pre-awards dance party a few years ago: Huntley. Spacious facilities, excellent food, and the most upbeat PA announcer anywhere all come with probably the longest schedule of the winter.

All 3 varsity divisions have a surplus of drama on the Huntley sched. Top tier 2A teams like Sycamore, Fenton, Crystal Lake Central, Batavia, Wauconda, Cary-Grove, and Grant can easily send each other to a trophy-less finish. Ubiquitous Shepard will be fresh off of dancing at Palatine on Saturday. It’ll be Antioch’s 3rd appearance of the winter. Solid Hampshire, Freeport, Glenbard South, Grayslake Central, DeKalb and Prairie Ridge all have tons of floor experience this season and will definitely be hungry for feedback, data, and a chance to refine their performances on a huge stage. Richards laid low until last weekend’s debut at Argo, so I’m excited to compare both of their appearances. Rockford East gets credit for putting together their most notable season so far, and I’ve got to give it up for an improved Belvidere program!

It’s a high-stakes showdown in 1A. I mean, wow: Burlington Central, Aurora Central Catholic, Morris, Somonauk (coming off of last weekend’s win at Argo), IC Catholic, Providence Catholic, and St. Francis! Most of these teams are probably headed for celebrations after sectionals, so that’s the caliber of talent we’ll get to see on Sunday.

If you don’t want to drive to state, you could get a decent clone of 3A’s lineup by watching the action at Huntley. Besides the host team’s blazing hip hop routine, I hope the crowd loves what they have to offer in terms of lyrical! Lake Park, South Elgin, Barrington, Minooka, York, Bartlett, Naperville North–they all join in on a 3A festival of amazing routines. There’s a tier of teams that I think can have excellent runs at state: Naperville Central, Downers Grove North, Plainfield South, Glenbard West, St. Charles East. This day is probably more important for these 3 teams than anyone else. Then there’s a group that can totally springboard into a hot sectional and conference run: St. Charles North, Glenbard North, Joliet West, Plainfield North, Wheaton North, Jacobs, Plainfield Central, and Waubonsie Valley. I’m especially curious about these teams that have the potential to have a pretty exciting January: Dundee-Crown, Waukegan, and McHenry. I don’t think there’s a 3A team in this field that you can definitively count out of the sectionals picture!

THE LOWDOWN

LOCATION:

Huntley HS. 13719 Harmony Rd., Huntley, IL 60142

TIME:

Sunday, January 12. Dances begin at 9 and 1A awards are set for 12:30. 2A and 3A teams dance all day with those awards scheduled for 7:00

TEAM DIVISIONS:

3A, 2A, 1A, JV 3A, JV 2A

FAN TIPS:

Yup, this is the big one. It’s hyped and for good reason. Most fans will be coming from Route 47 and will head west on Main Street, which starts off as what you’d expect but then turns into a 55 MPH rural road…and could be kind of tricky with the weather. Opt for the huge parking lots east of the building. Huntley usually has a great food selection and is one of the most comfortable gyms to dance in and to watch from the bleachers. Be ready for their relentlessly upbeat and fun-loving PA announcer!
